To celebrate the launch of World Happiness Report 2026 on Thursday 19 March, we’re delighted to announce a packed calendar of events across eight cities over six months.
A special online event with the report’s authors will be streamed live on Friday 20 March. There will also be a range of partner events around the world where regional experts and commentators will discuss the report’s findings in more depth.

Join our author team as they go deeper into the key findings from this year’s report. They’ll discuss why some countries are happier than others and explain the relationship between social media use and wellbeing around the world.

Social Media and Happiness
The Gross National Happiness Forum will hold a symposium at the National Assembly, together with the National Assembly GNH Policy Forum and local governments. The event will explore how social media can promote happiness across generations and discuss related policy improvements. A press conference will be held at the National Assembly following the symposium.

To celebrate the International Day of Happiness, Action for Happiness is hosting a one-hour online event featuring Jan-Emmanuel De Neve (WHR editor), Jonathan Haidt (NYU psychologist), Dr Radha Modgil (GP, presenter, author, and digital creator) and Mark Williamson (Director of Action for Happiness).
5.º Congreso de Psicología Positiva
This annual gathering brings together researchers, therapists, coaches, educators, and organisational leaders committed to human wellbeing and flourishing, as well as those interested in exploring the science of wellbeing. This year, there will be a special roundtable on the findings from WHR 2026 and the implications for happiness in Latin America.
APPG on Wellbeing Economics
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Wellbeing Economics will host an exclusive roundtable event for academics, charities, and politicians to discuss the links between social media and wellbeing, in anticipation of the UK Government’s upcoming consultation.
Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything)
Three WHR editors – John Helliwell, Richard Layard, and Jan-Emmanuel De Neve – will be live on Reddit for one hour to answer your questions about this year’s report.
Sustainable Well-being Goals Festival 2026
On 26 March, the world’s largest financial newspaper, The Nikkei, will release the recording of a special four-hour event on the Sustainable Wellbeing Goals, a new initiative to go beyond the Sustainable Development Goals from 2030.
Insights and Debates from the World Happiness Report 2026
The Research Group in Happiness Economics at Cadi Ayyad University will hold a two-day conference to celebrate the International Day of Happiness and host the WHR’s regional launch for Africa and the MENA region. A roundtable session featuring scholars from the UK, France, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Morocco will be streamed live on the morning of Thursday 30 April.
Nordic Happiness Summit
Barry Grimes, WHR Production Editor, will share the findings from WHR 2026 at the second Nordic Happiness Summit. The annual event is organised by the Center for Wellbeing, Welfare and Happiness at the Stockholm School of Economics, and the Hanken Business Lab in Finland.
ISQOLS 2026 Annual Conference
A selection of WHR authors will present their findings at the 24th annual conference of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. This year’s conference offers a unique platform to explore innovative approaches and their implications for policymaking, with a shared commitment to enhancing societal wellbeing.
